More Good News For Whitefield: Metro Work Set To Take Off

Very recently, South Western Railways decided to ease the traffic woes of Bangaloreans by sending out a train from Majestic to Whitefield between 8:45 am and 9:30 am. While this would marginally subside the hassles of commuters across the city, here’s some better news.

Metro between Byappanahalli and Whitefield is set to eventuate from the second quarter of 2017. Land worth Rs. 900 crore has been procured for the same. The BMRCL has floated tenders to build six stations from Jyothipura to Visvesvaraya Industrial Area.

The work is expected to be completed fast as construction has begun from both the ends – From Byappanahalli end and the other from ITPL  Also BMRCL in compliance with the contract, is set to widen the roads between these corridors.

The residents in Bangalore East however have a mixed response. Two forums, namely Whitefield and Whitefield Area Commerce and Industries Association (WACIA) have expressed their apprehension about transition time and the execution of this project.

Elaborating further, WACIA has demanded extension of suburban rails to ease traffic flow although there have been some trains that operate between Byappanahalli and Majestic to Whitefield which they perceive doesn’t help as much.

The tremendous rise of Whitefield as an area with immense corporate presence has coincided with the demand for residential properties in and around the area. Although Whitefield enjoys a tranquil feel in most parts of the area, roads connecting here have another story.

Residents also feel the under construction flyover near Outer Ring Road has impeded faster reach time to Whitefield. With the BMRCL finally prioritizing the freer traffic flow to and fro Whitefield, resident forums seem to have embraced egalitarian responsibility.
